Her experience being the mayor has taught her to realize leadership skills and responsibility. Mayor Dominguez was at the podium explaining that the Minitropolis project helps students build financial literacy, social skills, and career readiness. Adrian Villarreal joins them during the grand opening of Houstonville Minitropolis city. An IBC Bank run by elementary school age children at ‘Houstonville Minitropolis’ at the Sam Houston Elementary School in McAllen. Minitropolis has been a part of Sam Houston Elementary for almost 26 years, only closing for one year because of the pandemic,” she said. This exercise allows children to realize and learn how a business and a city operate. They learn leadership and decision-making skills.īut there is much more because it includes everything a city could have. Elementary school children operate all of this as they learn how to be responsible citizens and how a democratic process works. Houstonville Minitropolis is a city within Sam Houston Elementary School where the children are part of that city. There is an IBC Bank, a The Home Depot store, a fire station, and even a city hall with a mayor and commissioners.
